Creek Days is Coming Up!

Creek Days, ERWIG's annual environmental education fair, will be entering its sixth season this year, with festivities being held at the Big Trees area of Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

Each year, ERWIG teams up with the AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project to put on this event, which highlights the end of the school year for hundreds of Humboldt County students and teachers.  At the last event, over 550 students, teachers, and community members visited Pamplin Grove for the week-long educational event.  Smiles and wonderment abounded during the fair, and many letters came back to us expressing excitement about the event.

At Creek Days, booths are set up along a trail in the redwood forest, each covering a different environmental topic.  These topics include geology, the salmon life cycle, benthic macro invertebrates (water-borne insect larvae), hydrology, local Native American history and culture, and much more.

AmeriCorps volunteers staff the event, acting as docents and staffing each booth along the trail.

This year, Creek Days will be held the week of May 23.  Local Southern Humboldt schools will be contacted and classes will be scheduled to attend during the week.  On Friday, May 27, a Community Day will be held, with an open invitation for anyone from the community to attend and participate in this fun and informative event.
